He went on to say that The Center for Disease Control (CDC), wanted everyone to have emergency family plans, get 72-hr kits in order and prepare themselves for the great zombie invasion. I laughed – of course, bring on the zombies!
That being said, what they are really hoping for is to get your attention and while you are preparing for those pesky zombies, you will also prepare for earthquakes, tsunamis, tornadoes, and other really nasty grumblings that keep happening at home and around the world.
In starting this zombie campaign the Federal government is doing its best tongue-in-cheek to get you thinking about being prepared. Did it work? I hope so because…
The day after I heard about this new campaign I listened to the horror and the devastation of the tornadoes in Joplin, Missouri and the destruction in Ohio from tornadoes and storms the next day. Are you interested in getting prepared now?
When the “strongest earthquake ever” hit Japan, one of the scientists being interviewed about possible side effects made the statement that the earth’s “bell had been rung.” He went on to say that he felt that there could be repercussions felt around the world. Earthquakes, volcanoes, fires, flooding, tornadoes – do you feel the groanings?
That statement reminded me of the scripture in the Doctrine and Covenants 88: 89-91;
“(89) For after your testimony cometh the testimony of earthquakes, that shall cause groanings in the midst of her, and men shall fall upon the ground and shall not be able to stand.
(90) And also cometh the testimony of the voice of thunderings, and the voice of lightnings, and the voice of tempests, and the voice of the waves of the sea heaving themselves beyond their bounds.
The government is trying to encourage us to prepare ourselves for emergencies, religious scriptures and leaders warn us of disasters, and I keep telling you to get your food storage and water stored – what are you waiting for? Zombies? Well, the zombies are on their way. NOW is the time to get yourselves prepared. Right now.
While reading about the Joplin disaster one thing that really stuck out in my mind was reported by Kurt Voigt and Alan Scher Zagier of the Associated Press:
“Authorities conducted a door-to-door search of the damaged area Monday morning, moving gingerly around downed power lines, jagged debris and a series of gas leaks that caused fires around the city overnight.”
The part that caught my eye was the, “conducted a door-to-door search.” There was so much damage and confusion and the first responders were searching door to door for survivors that needed help.
Do you remember articles #3: Under the Bed Kit and #4: Emergency Signal Kit? This situation is the perfect example of how these kits would be helpful to those who are in dire emergency circumstances. These kits can help us do our part by appropriately tagging the rubble (that used to be our home), to help the first responders either quickly pass by or stop and help those in need that may still be trapped or need emergency medical attention.
Get prepared; purchase a little piece of peace by putting together a terrific 72-hr kit and put together a family plan. And if you need some additional help in keeping those zombies away you can also get additional information by visiting emergency.cdc.gov
